Cub Scout Advancement
On the advancement trail, a cub Scout progresses from rank to rank, learning new skills as he goes. Each of the ranks and awards in Cub Scouting has its own requirements. As he advances through the ranks, the requirements get more challenging, to match the new skills and abilities he learns as he grows older.
Bobcat Rank - The Foundation.
No matter what age or grade a boy joins cub Scouting, he must earn his bobcat badge before he can advance to the rank of tiger cub, Bear, bear, or webelos.
- Learn and say the Scout Oath, with help if needed.
- Learn and say the Scout Law, with help if needed.
- Show the Cub Scout sign. Tell what it means.
- Show the Cub Scout handshake. Tell what it means.
- Say the Cub Scout motto. Tell what it means.
- Show the Cub Scout salute. Tell what it means.
- With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide—Bobcat Requirements.
Tiger Rank - 1st Grade
To begin his path to the Tiger Rank, the Tiger Scout (first grade) must earn his Bobcat Badge. He then must complete 6 adventures and one elective out of his Tiger Book. When he has completed these he will earn his Tiger Badge and should wear it on his left breast pocket. (See guide to Cub Scout Uniforms)
Tiger Rank Requirements
1. Complete each of the following Tiger required adventures with your den or family:
- a. Backyard Jungle
- b. Games Tigers Play
- c. My Family’s Duty to God
- d. Team Tiger
- e. Tiger Bites
- f. Tigers in the Wild
2. Complete one Tiger elective adventure of your den or family’s choosing.
3. With your parent or adult partner, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.*
*If your family does not have Internet access at home AND you do not have ready Internet access at school or another public place or via a mobile device, the Cyber Chip portion of this requirement may be waived by your parent or adult partner.
Wolf Rank - 2nd Grade/8 year olds
To begin his path to the Wolf Rank, the Wolf Scout (2nd Grade/8 year olds) must have earned his Bobcat Badge. He then must complete 6 adventures and one elective out of his Wolf Book. When he has completed these he will earn his Wolf Badge and should wear it on his left breast pocket. (See guide to Cub Scout Uniforms)
1. Complete each of the following Bear required adventures with your den or family:
- a. Call of the Wild
- b. Council Fire
- c. Duty to God Footsteps
- d. Howling at the Moon
- e. Paws on the Path
- f. Running With the Pack
2. Complete one Wolf elective adventure of your den or family’s choosing.
3. With your parent or adult partner, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.*

Bear Rank - 3rd Grade/9 year olds

3. With your parent or adult partner, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.*
Webelos Rank - 4th & 5th Grade
To begin his path to the Webelos Rank, the Webelos Scout (4th Grade and ) must have earned his Bobcat Badge. He must have been active in his Webelos den for three months. He then must complete 5 adventures and two electives out of his Webelos Book. When he has completed these he will earn his Webelos Badge and should wear it on his left breast pocket. 1. Complete each of the following Webelos required adventures with your den or family:
- a. Cast Iron Chef
- b. Duty to God and You
- b. First Responder
- c. Stronger, Faster, Higher
- d. Webelos Walkabout
2. Complete Two Webelos elective adventures of your den or family’s choosing.
3. With your parent or adult partner, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.*
Arrow of Light - 4th & 5th Grade
To begin his path to the Arrow of Life Rank, the Webelos Scout (4th & 5th Grade) must have earned his Bobcat Badge. Be active in your Webelos Den for at least six months since completing the fourth grade or for at least six months since becoming 10 years old. He then must complete 4 adventures and three electives out of his Webelos Book. When he has completed these he will earn his Arrow of Life and should wear it on his left breast pocket. The Arrow of Life Award is the only Cub Scout Award that may be worn on the youth and Adult Boy Scout Uniform. (See guide to Cub Scout Uniforms)
